My classic car: 1947 Plymouth P15 Sedan

If you too have a classic car with a story, please visit this link and fill out the information to submit your story for a chance to be featured in ClassicCars.com magazine.

i got mine 1947 Plymouth P15 4 door sedan, Ol’ Blue, from a childhood friend of mine. He originally wanted to buy a Ford Model A, but his wife insisted that he have to give up the Plymouth first. Long story short, he contacted my wife and she went to her credit union without my knowledge and bought this car for my 49th birthday.

Over the years, I would occasionally take my father for a Sunday drive in the car, during which he would tell me stories about his favorite job in his youth: driving a cab like Old Blue. I even have a photo of my dad getting his taxi driver’s license on the streets of Denver, Colorado when he was 23 years old.

Time passed. Old Blue eventually started puffing out blue smoke and sat in the garage, needing a new ring job.

As time went on, so did my father.

When I’m 62 I’ll be able to retire and be ready to sell or trade the Ol’ Blue for a coupe so I can build a street car, something I’ve always wanted. But instead of selling the car, I came up with the idea of transforming the Ol’ Blue into a roadside cab in memory of my father.

Now my summer toy, today’s Ol’ Blue is cruising the Front Range in Colorado with a souped-up 350ci Chevy engine paired with a 350 turbo transmission and a 9-inch Ford rear end.

Dad, thank you for all the wonderful memories as a taxi driver.
