- Police found the costumed suspect after local residents joined the chase.
- A British court handed the cape-wearing criminal a 12-month driving ban and a $765 fine.
Sometimes the best stories don’t come from epic battles or daring rescues. They emerge from the absurdity of everyday life. Consider the example of a British man dressed as Batman (think Temu’s “Cheap Knight” series) who managed to get himself into trouble. Not from thwarting supervillains, but from an alleged drunk driving accident that rendered his so-called Batmobile inoperable.
Wiltshire police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Lewis Blondrage, who reportedly lost control of his car, crashed into a telephone pole and fled in the English town of Tidworth on November 19 on site. Unfortunately for the blonde, this isn’t a secret retreat to the Batcave; It was more like an awkward tumble into a local hedge.

Local residents become unlikely allies, joining the hunt when the blonde makes her unfortunate escape. With the help of a K-9 unit, police eventually found him. The scene they found was almost too surreal to be true. The blonde was still in full Batman costume, as if she still retained a hint of comic book bravado. Spoiler alert: the cape doesn’t help.
“You have been identified as the driver of a vehicle that crashed around the corner,” police tell the man in a video released by police. When asked if he had been drinking in the past twenty minutes, the blonde gave a less than stellar vigilante answer: “Yeah. Twenty minutes. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.” “It’s safe to say Christian Bale wouldn’t have approved of this delivery.

It is reported British Broadcasting CorporationBlondrage was charged with driving under the influence and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. The court sentenced him to a 12-month driving ban and a fine of £600 (approximately $765). It was a costly end to a night of questionable decision-making, and perhaps a reminder that some cloaks (and keys) are better left in the closet.
