2019-2024 GMC Sierra 1500
2021-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe
2021-2024 Chevrolet Suburban
2021-2024 GMC Yukon
2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade
Owners complained that General Motors’ L87 V8 engine bearings failed and caused the L87 engine to seize. GM owners also complained about L87 engine bearings failing and causing connecting rods to puncture the engine block.
The owner of a 2023 Chevrolet 1500 describes the L87 engine failure his truck experienced.
“On June 16, 2024, my vehicle broke down on the interstate at 70 mph. I was able to step to the side and attempt to restart. Ten minutes later, the vehicle restarted and I received a “Low Battery” message News. The day after I drove it, I called the dealer to ask for a status update and was told that the car had 3,212 miles on it “
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into the L87 engine failure based on complaints from owners who also said they received no warning before the L87 engine failed.
Federal safety regulators released no further details, but NHTSA will “determine the scope and severity of potential issues and conduct a comprehensive assessment of potential safety-related issues.”
