The Suzuki Alto is one of the best-selling KEI cars on the Japanese market and is known for its utility and affordability. The hatchback is currently in its ninth generation, which was launched in 2021 with new engine options and improved fuel efficiency. According to Japanese media reports, the next generation Suzuki Alto is in development and may be released in 2026. Here are all the key details of the 2026 new midrange hatchback we know so far.

– Interestingly, the new Alto will be bigger than the current generation. Reports show that the hatchback will reduce its weight by nearly 100 kg to about 580 kg – about 660 kg. For those who don’t know, the third-generation Suzuki Alto weighs 580 kg and does not have airbags. As time goes by, as safety has become a priority, Hyundai entry-level cars are now equipped with proper safety kits. However, reducing the total weight of a vehicle while providing a wide range of safety features remains a challenge for OEMs.
– To lose weight, Suzuki will use a more advanced heart platform. The architecture consists of super and advanced high tensile steel (UHSS & AHSS).
– Losing weight will also improve its fuel efficiency. The 2026 midrange hatchback is likely to be equipped with a 49PS, a naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 2kW electric motor and a 48V super ENE charge system. The current generation model uses a mild hybrid technology of 12V and offers a 27.7km mileage. The fuel efficiency of the conventional gasoline version is 25.2 km.
– In addition, the new Lieutenant Suzuki will have lower carbon emission levels and the power-to-weight ratio will be increased.
– Currently, the gasoline model in Suzuki is in the price range of 1,068,000 yen (about 5.83 crore rupees), and the mild hybrid version is priced at 1,218,800 yen (about 6.65 crore rupees). The new Alto state may witness secondary prices rising.
