BMW India has finally launched the all-new M5, priced at Rs 199 crore (ex-showroom). Notably, the seventh-generation M5 marks the first model in the M5 range to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It will reach our market via CBU (Complete Building Unit) route. The facelifted car retains much of the design language of the standard 5 Series, but incorporates a number of sporty upgrades. Like the regular model, it features slim headlights with vertical LED daytime running lights, illuminated grille bezels and flush door handles. However, notable elements include more aggressive front and rear bumpers, pronounced side skirts, and a prominent rear diffuser housing quad tailpipes. The fuel filler is located on the right rear fender, while the battery charging port is on the left.

The new BMW M5: color options
The new BMW M5 is available in Alpine White non-metallic finish, as well as a range of metallic color options including Sapphire Black, Sophisto Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Fire Red, Carbon Black, Isle of Man Green, Storm Bay, Marina Bay Blue and Frozen Dark gray. Additionally, BMW Individual paint options are available for those looking for more customization.
The new BMW M5: mechanical details
The sedan is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor integrated between the engine and transmission. The V8 engine produces 577 hp and 750 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 194 hp and 280 Nm, for a total output of 717 hp and 1,000 Nm. In addition, the M5 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and from 0-200 km/h in 10.9 seconds. Its top speed is 250 km/h, but this can be increased to 305 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the driver can select rear-wheel drive by disabling Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
The new M5 is equipped with an 18.6kWh battery, with a pure electric driving range of up to 69 kilometers and a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour. It supports AC charging at speeds up to 7.4 kW.
The M5 offers five driving modes. Hybrid mode combines the engine and electric motor, while Comfort mode emphasizes the electric motor for greater efficiency. Sport and Sport Plus modes ensure the engine is always active. In electric mode, the engine only starts under heavy acceleration or when started manually via the paddle shifters.
The suspension system is fully adaptive, allowing the driver to adjust ride settings to specific needs or driving conditions. Standard braking setup includes six-piston calipers up front and single-piston calipers at the rear, with the option to upgrade to carbon-ceramic brakes. The car is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires on staggered wheels with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels.
The new BMW M5: interior and features
The interior features standard full-leather merino wool upholstery, with color combinations available in red/black, Kayalami orange, silverstone/black and all-black. In terms of configuration, the M5 is equipped with an M-specific steering wheel with illuminated M buttons, as well as unique M seats and a customized center console. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and head-up display all display exclusive M-themed graphics. Other features include ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, a premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system and a wireless charging pad.

Finally, the car’s safety kit includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), M Dynamic Mode (MDM), Attention Assist, M Sport Differential networked with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Active Roll Stability with Active Roll Comfort, Performance Control, Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold, Electronic Vehicle Immobilizer and Collision Sensors and ISOFIX Child Seat Chair installation.
