The two major Indian automakers, Mahindra and Ola, plan to make Independence Day even more special by launching much-anticipated models like the Thar Roxx and the Indian Electric Motorcycle on Independence Day 2024. They will be joined by British brand BSA, which is part of Classic Legends and will debut its flagship model, the Gold Star 650, here. If you are as curious as we are about what these all-new machines will bring to the Indian automotive market, here are some details worth a look.
Mahindra Thalrock
In keeping with its tradition of delighting Indian car enthusiasts on Independence Day every year, Mahindra will announce the prices of its new five-door SUV, Thar Roxx, on August 15. While the exact specifications are not known yet, the SUV is expected to be offered with a choice of engines: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol, a 2.2-litre diesel and a new 1.5-litre diesel. It is likely to include both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.

Compared to the three-door Thar, the new five-door SUV is longer with two more doors and a longer wheelbase. It gets a new six-slat grille, black door handles, LED headlights, C-shaped LED daytime running lights, square wheel arches and LED tail-light units. The SUV gets automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, a large infotainment system and a digital driver display (likely to be 10.25 inches). On the safety front, the Thar Roxx is expected to come with hill hold and descent control, six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Level 2 ADAS. It is likely to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Ola Electric Scooter
After multiple surprise launches/debuts on August 15 last year, Ola Electric is once again tempting the electric two-wheeler market with its first motorcycle. As per previous teasers, the motorcycle will have a sleek and modern look. It appears to have a hollow side panel, single-seat configuration, TFT dashboard, twin-pod LED headlights and unique rear-view mirrors. While the mechanical and hardware specifications are unknown, the motorcycle appears to have a telescopic fork suspension with the battery placed inside a tubular frame. In terms of market competition, Ola’s first electric motorcycle will compete with the performance-focused Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 and Matter Aera or the entry-level Revolt RV400 and Tork Kratos R.
BSA Venus 650
BSA, a famous British brand owned by Classic Legends, will debut in India on August 15 with the launch of the modern classic motorcycle Gold Star 650. The motorcycle is equipped with a 652cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with 44bhp of power and 55Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed gearbox. It comes with telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers and single disc at both ends.
