- Honda and Maruti Suzuki are all set to launch a new generation of small sedans.
- Honda Amaze and Suzuki Dzire were simultaneously teased ahead of their debut.
- Both models will feature sleeker styling and more technology than their predecessors.
Small sedans may be an endangered species in North America and Europe, but in India, they’re still thriving. Two stalwarts of the segment – Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze – are gearing up for the debut of their next-generation models, both with more premium styling and more refined design to woo the modern buyer.
Both Honda and Maruti Suzuki have already started their teaser campaigns, each launching enough new models to keep the anticipation high. Starting with the Honda Amaze, the third generation sedan looks more aggressive compared to the outgoing model. This is largely thanks to the hexagonal grille and slim LED headlights, which are inspired by larger Honda products.

The front bumper has sportier air intakes and the hood has sharper surfaces. Spy photos from India reveal that the small sedan will feature smoked taillights to look more attractive to younger buyers.
Despite significant styling updates, the new Honda Amaze is likely to ride on the same underpinnings. The current generation debuted in 2018 and is based on the platform of the larger Honda City. Powertrain options are likely to include an 89 hp (66 kW/90 hp) 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a manual transmission or a CVT.
Suzuki Dzire no longer looks like Swift sedan
Maruti Suzuki is also in the running for the teaser, but the Dzire’s secret is out – well ahead of its official debut on November 5 in India.
Unlike its predecessor, the new generation looks like a standalone model rather than a sedan version of the closely related Suzuki Swift hatchback. The upscale look includes a more serious face, a massive grille, sleeker headlights and improved proportions.
Inside, the Dzire will inherit most of the switchgear and features from the Swift, albeit with different trim options and a larger boot. The small sedan will ride on the Heartect platform and share its powertrain family with the Swift. The latter includes a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 82 hp (61 kW / 83 PS), as well as a CNG-powered alternative. Power will be sent to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox or CVT.
Apart from Honda Amaze and Suzuki Dzire, India’s small sedan segment also includes the city hatchback-based Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
