With added safety features and equipment, Honda believes the new Amaze will achieve higher crash test ratings than before

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has just launched the new Amaze sub 4m sedan in the Asian subcontinent. It is set to take on rivals like Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor and the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire. With the rapid development of the Indian automobile market, people are becoming more and more accepting of vehicle safety.

While the India-spec Hyundai Aura is yet to be crash tested, the Tata Tigor scored an impressive four stars in Global NCAP testing. To the confusion of the automotive world, the new Dzire has received a full-fat 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. Honda promises better crash performance beyond current standards with the new-generation Amaze. Let’s take a look.

New Amaze – Excellent crash test commitment

At the launch event, Honda Cars India Ltd announced that their new generation Amaze sedan will perform well in future crash tests. In Honda’s words, “In fact, all new Amazes are designed to overcome more stringent tests than those specified by current standards”. Currently, Indian-spec vehicles are undergoing crash tests at Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.

The company’s promise of better crash safety for the new generation Amaze is quite interesting. Meanwhile, segment leader Maruti Suzuki has just scored an outstanding 5 stars in Global NCAP’s updated crash test protocol. Thus becoming the first ever Maruti Suzuki to achieve a 5-star crash rating.

In comparison, the India-spec pre-refresh Honda Amaze was crash tested by Global NCAP in April 2024 and received only 2 stars for adult occupant safety and 0 stars for child occupant safety. Honda Cars India assured that the lower rating is due to the lack of certain features such as curtain airbags and ESC (Electronic Stability Control).

The new Amaze comes with a lot of additional safety equipment and Honda seems to be hoping to achieve a 5-star crash rating in future crash tests. Among the 28 safety features, Honda Amaze comes with ESC, lane monitoring camera for blind spot assist, emergency stop signal, 6 airbags as standard, 3-point seat belts for all 5 passengers and seat belt reminder .

New model improves safety

The main headline of the New Amaze is that it comes with ADAS suite to help drivers prevent accidents. Amaze’s ADAS is not only the first of its kind in this segment, but it is now the cheapest ADAS-equipped car in India. At the press conference, Honda also mentioned that the body structure of the new Amaze has been improved and the design is more sophisticated.

According to Honda, the new Amaze is made of 46% high-strength steel to increase structural rigidity. Honda also mentioned that they have conducted in-house crash testing and as a result the new Amaze achieved “top crash safety performance”. All these add-ons look like the secret to the new Amaze scoring high in future crash tests.
