Land Rover has once again created a beast – the ‘Defender Octa’. It is one of the most powerful, capable and durable vehicles in the Land Rover portfolio and the 4×4 segment. The engine and tyres are the focus, making the Defender Octa a perfect off-road vehicle. This week, the model will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in two different versions. The starting price in India is Rs 2.65 crore. Let’s take a deep look at the specifications and details of this upcoming beast.
Defender Octa: Engine and performance
The Defender Octa is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 625 horsepower and can reach a speed of 100 km/h in just 4 seconds. It is the same engine launched in the BMW M5. The Defender Octa has a top speed of 250 km/h. This performance is comparable to the Range Rover SV and is 108 horsepower more than the standard Defender V8.
Defender Octa: chassis and exterior
The main focus was to simultaneously enhance off-road capabilities while maintaining adequate on-road performance. To prioritize this, the SUV was put through a rigorous testing regimen, including 13,960 tests covering more than 100,000 kilometers, from sand dunes to snow tracks, to test its diversity.
The chassis of the Defender Octa makes it stand out from previous Land Rover models. It uses a 6D Dynamic Suspension system with hydraulically linked shock absorbers to ensure cabin stability without the need for physical anti-roll bars. In addition, the Octa has longer and stronger wishbones, excellent chassis protection and the fastest steering rack in the Defender series to date.
Defender Octa: Off-road Experience
The Beast Octa features new front and rear bumpers that help increase the approach angle to 40 degrees, departure angle to 42 degrees and breakover angle to 29 degrees. The Octa has a maximum ground clearance of 319 mm and ride height has been raised by 28 mm compared to the Defender 110 V8. In addition, the Octa is equipped with 2 snorkels that increase its wading capability to 1000 mm.
To maximize off-road performance, engineers worked with Goodyear to develop custom off-road tires that ride on specially designed 20-inch rims with a unique tread pattern.
Defender Octa: Exterior and Interior
The Beast Octa has a bold and unique look. An exclusive feature of the Defender Octa is the Octa mode button. A long press on the Octa button enables the Octa mode, which is designed for performance-focused off-road experiences. In addition, it comes with exclusive alloy wheels, flared arches, and a higher ride. The open grille design and diamond-shaped Octa badge on the C-pillar distinguish it from other Defender models. On the other hand, the interior of the Octa highlights the new 3D knitted texture performance seats and comfortable headrests. The 11.4-inch infotainment system with a center console refrigerator are a few additional highlights of the Octa’s interior.
Defender Octa: Standard and One Edition
The Beast Octa comes in two different versions: the standard and the One Edition. The hardest version is the Edition one, which comes with 20-inch wheels, premium off-road tyres, a rear ladder and a roof box. It comes with carbon fibre detailing, Farrow Green paint and Khaki interiors. The One Edition is priced at Rs 2.85 crore, while the standard version is priced at Rs 2.65 crore.
Special colors and finishes
Special colours for the Octa include Petra Copper, Faroe Green, Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey. A matt finish with protective film is also available, which will be introduced to the standard Defender range at a later date.
