With Hurricane Francine officially behind us, New Orleans wants travel planners and visitors to know that the hospitality industry was largely unaffected and quickly resumed normal operations.
As expected, New Orleans experienced some flash flooding and power outages, but according to the latest information, damage to New Orleans’ hotel assets was minimal and downtown hotels are fully operational.
- Airport Update: this Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport São Paulo International Airport (MSY) remains open and operational following the impact of Hurricane Francine. There was no significant damage to the terminal facilities and runway. Airlines are expected to gradually resume operations this morning. While a few flight cancellations remain, most airlines will resume normal operations in the late morning to early afternoon. Passengers with travel plans are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest flight information before heading to the airport.
- Upcoming Events: New Orleans has a complete Event Schedule There is a slew of events including NOLAxNOLA, Music Month, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, Prospect.6, Halloween, National Fried Chicken Day, Beignet Fest, several major conventions, fall cultural events, the Bayou Classic, New Orleans-style holidays, New Orleans Saints games, and of course Super Bowl LIX on February 9th.
As the city emerges from the effects of Tropical Cyclone Francine, Tourism New Orleans remains in contact with the City of New Orleans Office of Homeland Security, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, Entergy and the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Department and will continue to participate in official briefings to keep the public updated. Tourism New Orleans’ Meeting Sales, Conference Services and Tour Sales Managers remain in contact with clients as the City prioritizes the safety of residents, team members and visitors.
Hurricanes and storms are a common occurrence in coastal cities, and New Orleans is probably better prepared than most, having invested heavily in upgrading its infrastructure and building a $16 billion hurricane risk reduction system.
