New Royal Enfield Scram 440

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 has been officially launched in India, marking the brand’s entry into the highly competitive ADV crossover motorcycle segment. Available in two variants: Trail and Force, the Scram 440 replaces the Scram 411 in Royal Enfield’s portfolio and promises enhanced performance, more powerful engines and a host of adventure features.

Design and pricing

In terms of design, the Scram 440 retains most of the styling cues from the Scram 411 while adding key upgrades. The Scram 440 rides on the same chassis with slight increases in size and weight. Trail models are available in blue and green, while Force models add a teal hue to their lineup.

Function upgrade

The Scram 440 is equipped with adventure-specific features to enhance its all-terrain capabilities. Key highlights include:

– New LED headlights improve visibility
– Digital analog instrument cluster with optional Tripper navigation
– 15 liter fuel tank for long rides

With a seat height of 795mm and ground clearance of 200mm, the Scram 440 offers a rider-friendly setup for both off-road and urban environments. It also includes a top box with a 10kg load capacity, making it ideal for travel.

Upgraded 443cc engine

At the heart of the Scram 440 is powered by a 443cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that delivers 25.4 hp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, a significant improvement over the 5-speed gearbox on the Scram 411. This new setup ensures better performance, improved NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels and smoother highway cruising.

Enhanced brakes and suspension

Braking duties are handled by 300mm front and 240mm rear discs with larger piston calipers for improved responsiveness and switchable ABS. The suspension system is borrowed from the Scram 411, with telescopic front shock absorbers with 190 mm of travel and a rear monoshock with 180 mm of travel.

Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan said, “The new Scram 440 is a crossover designed to be enjoyed anywhere, anytime. Our aim in launching the Scram 440 is to provide the community with a motorcycle that is truly fit for its purpose; The Scram 440 is our take on a scrambler, blending legal functionality with fun and accessibility. It offers real-world off-road capability and convenience for daily commuting and everyday on-the-go, we are confident this motorcycle will bring adventure to many riders! and fun!”

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 enters the highly competitive scrambler segment and will compete with the likes of the Yezdi Scrambler, Triumph Scrambler 400X and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. With the launch of Scram 440, Royal Enfield is gearing up for aggressive expansion in 2025 with plans to launch 450cc, 650cc and 750cc categories. This marks an exciting phase for the brand as it continues to solidify its position in the mid-size motorcycle segment.
