New Sales Director for Sun International Central Office

Sun International’s newly appointed central office sales executive, Andrew Camp, is on a mission to expand market share and maximize the revenue potential of the hospitality business.

With a Diploma in Marketing and Business Management from the Institute of Marketing Management and 30 years of sales and marketing experience (14 of which were in hotel sales), Andrew first joined Sun International in 2018 as Head of International Sales.

“During the pandemic, Andrew led his team through the most difficult period the inbound leisure industry has faced. Since then, the international sales team has grown and leisure product revenue has grown rapidly, while remaining lean and focused on efficiency. Andrew will start his new role on January 1, 2025. Reporting to Sun International Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Helen Stewart, he will lead the strategic integration of international and domestic sales, sales management and sports, events and entertainment divisions.

Additionally, this role oversees and provides guidance to the sports, entertainment and events portfolio by developing strategies, plans and building relationships with key stakeholders to acquire, acquire and retain sports, entertainment and events businesses. This will be achieved by working and collaborating with multiple cross-functional operating teams across the business units and centrally developing and implementing customer-centric strategies to deliver exceptional, personalized and memorable events and guest experiences that drive Revenue growth.

“My new role entails planning, managing and implementing customer acquisition, growth, reactivation and retention sales strategies across the product portfolio, with the aim of maximizing the revenue potential of the business operations and achieving domestic and international sales targets,” said Andrew.

“The focus of my new role will be on sports, events and entertainment – ​​particularly single-day events – as well as growing the MICE market business and international individual travellers, leisure groups and travel series. We will continue to work with local and international Partners work together to bring top music and comedy shows to our large stage as well as events such as Miss South Africa, catering events and festivals and ongoing gambling tournaments.

“Golf continues to be a major focus for Sun City and the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City is one of the highlights of the South African sporting calendar. Over its 40-year history, the event has brought together some of the biggest names in world golf . There were 66 players, four days of play, and a prize pool of US$7.5 million (R138.9 million). The event was part of the DP World Tour and was the penultimate event in Dubai.

“Other exciting sports opportunities will include combat sports, CrossFit, HYROX, powerlifting, and esports (online video game competitions – the fastest growing trend in the world with huge sponsorships and prize money). We will continue to host popular singles daily events such as triathlons, mountain and road cycling races, trail running and swimming.”

Last year, Andrew joined the Tourism Marketing Council of South Africa (TOMSA), a private sector and publicly supported body that aims to market South Africa as a tourist destination. He was also invited to lead the South African Tourism Services Association working group to help remove barriers to the Chinese visa process.

Prior to joining Sun International, Andrew served as International Sales Manager for Thompsons Africa for seven years. A native of Durban, Andrew worked in London before returning to South Africa and settling in Johannesburg with his wife Ruth and their children. He enjoys traveling, reading inspirational books, socializing with family and friends, exploring the outdoors and staying fit through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing and running.
