Skoda Auto India (SAVIPL), the Indian subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, has been working on developing a range of new models and architectures. this Skoda Kailac It is one of the planned SUVs under 4 meters and is expected to make its global debut on November 6, 2024. This model will be launched in February 2025. SAVIPL aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 100,000 units at the Chakan plant. The Czech carmaker has invested €250 million in the Skoda Kylaq, which will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon.
Volkswagen will also launch a sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market in 2026. It’s essentially a Volkswagen version of the Skoda Kylaq, with familiar design cues from Volkswagen. The two subcompact SUVs will share the MQB-A0-IN platform, features and powertrains. The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 115bhp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a manual gearbox and a torque converter automatic gearbox.
The Kylaq’s suspension system will include front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam axle. The upcoming Volkswagen compact SUV will also feature the same setup. There are reports that Volkswagen may also offer a special 1.5L GT-powered version of the model to attract performance-focused enthusiasts.
Interestingly, the upcoming Volkswagen small SUV will be the brand’s first model to be designed and built in India. The carmaker will invest approximately 25 million euros in its development. No details are available yet. However, the new Volkswagen compact SUV is likely to feature Volkswagen’s familiar front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, front and rear lights, and a new tailgate. Some Volkswagen-specific elements can also be seen in the car.
