New Volkswagen Talon makes global debut, replacing Tiguan

Volkswagen has launched the three-row SUV Talon, which is a longer version of the new-generation Tiguan. The new Talon is the second-generation model, positioned between the Tiguan and the larger Touareg. In addition to the seven-seat layout, the new Tyrone is also available in a five-seat layout, providing more practicality with a larger 885-liter luggage compartment. As a seven-seater version of the Tiguan, the appearance of the new Tyrone is very similar to the latter. It features slim LED headlights at the front with an illuminated Volkswagen logo, while the rear fascia consists of a full-width LED light bar and 3D taillight clusters with a Volkswagen logo. The Tayron rides on a set of 17- to 19-inch alloy wheels that fill out the square wheel arches.

The second-generation Tayron is 4,770mm long, which is 231mm longer than the Tiguan sold in Europe. To accommodate the extra row of seats, Volkswagen increased the wheelbase by approximately 110 mm to 2,791 mm and lengthened the rear overhang.

New Volkswagen Talon: Powertrain

The new Tayron is based on the MQB Evo architecture and offers four engine choices: a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol mild hybrid, a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol, a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel and two plug-in hybrids (2.0-liter turbo-petrol with an electric motor). All versions come with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, but power outputs vary, ranging from 148bhp to 268bhp. The vehicle is available in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.

Volkswagen says the plug-in hybrid version has an all-electric range of more than 100 kilometers, thanks to a 19.7kWh battery. The model also comes with a regenerative braking system and electronic power assist for better performance. The battery can be charged using an 11kW AC wall box or a 50kW DC charger.
