As a fully revamped version of the MT-09, the new Yamaha R9 is equipped with the same 890cc inline 3-cylinder engine and extensive electronics
Yamaha has been making major changes to its completely fair product portfolio. The company has just updated its YZF-R3 to MY25 with a new design language. At the same time, Yamaha unveiled the new R9, ushering in a new era of super sports motorcycles. It features enhanced aerodynamics for excellent track touring.
New Yamaha R9
The company has been satisfying the cravings of supersport motorcycle enthusiasts with the launch of the Yamaha R9. Due to its pursuit of cornering speed, the Yamaha R9 is bound to shine in some international markets. In the US, the Yamaha R9 is priced at $12,499, which is equivalent to Rs 10.50 lakh at today’s exchange rates.
The R9 is available in three colors – Yamaha Team Blue, Matte Raven Black and Intensity White/Red Line. The first two colorways offer similar and minimalistic graphics, while the Intensity White/Red line features flashier stickers. Additionally, only the Yamaha Blue comes with blue alloy wheels, while the other two come with black alloy wheels.
With the CP3 powertrain and powerful supersport chassis, Yamaha brings track performance to the streets. The Yamaha R9 uses a Deltabox gravity-cast aluminum frame. The company claims the chassis is the lightest among Yamaha Supersport models.
With 50:50 weight distribution, Yamaha promises superior agility and super-sport handling that can be harnessed by a wide range of riders with a wider range of experience levels. Like other Yamaha YZF-R motorcycles, the R9 is also equipped with the latest R-series styling, including M-shaped front duct, sloping LED daytime running lights, etc.
Like MotoGP cars, the front of the Yamaha R9 is equipped with functional aerodynamic winglets. These are designed to smooth out the airflow and add considerable downforce at the front to improve handling characteristics at higher speeds. The instrument has a TFT color display and has many functions.
Electronics and engine specifications
There is a new 6-axis IMU that enables 9-level traction control, 3-level slip control, 3-level lift control and brake control system. Other notable features include 4-stage power delivery modes, two-stage engine brake management, transmission limiter, Yamaha ride control, rear slip regulator, cruise control and launch control.
The Yamaha R9 is equipped with the same 890cc DOHC 4V/cylinder liquid-cooled inline 3-cylinder engine as the MT-09, with a peak power of approximately 120 PS and a peak torque of 93 Nm, and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. 43mm KYB fully adjustable USD front fork, KYB adjustable rear monoshock, dual 320mm front discs with Brembo Stylema calipers, 17-inch alloy wheels with 120/70 front and 180/55 rear Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport Tires.
