  • The Versa can be seen swerving in traffic before crashing.
  • Drivers should be thankful their cars didn’t roll over the edge of the bridge.
  • At first he tried to walk away, but eventually returned to the scene.

Swerving hard in traffic is a bad idea, especially when you’re on a narrow two-lane road where the likelihood of an accident is higher if something goes wrong. Dashcam footage captured the moment the driver of a Nissan Versa crashed and rolled over on a bridge in Pittsburgh early Thursday morning. Despite the severity of the accident, the driver appears to have escaped without any serious injuries.

The video shows the black Versa driving past a camera in the middle of the bridge. The driver then changed lanes in front of a white truck, apparently trying to avoid traffic. For a few seconds the car was blocked from view and when it came back into view it could be seen sliding left across the road and hitting the center barrier.

It’s unclear why the Versa driver lost control while changing lanes, but speed may have been a factor. Regardless, the impact with the barrier caused the car to flip and roll on its side before coming to a screeching halt hundreds of feet off the side of the road.

Several motorists pulled over after the accident. Oddly, the driver of the wrecked Versa can be seen quickly getting out of the vehicle and briskly walking away from the wreckage, despite witnesses trying to stop them from leaving. It was unclear if the driver was simply in shock or if he was planning to leave the scene. Regardless of the situation, he quickly returned to the vehicle and could be seen walking around the mangled Nissan, seemingly uninjured. If the car hadn’t hit the impact attenuator on the bridge, it might have continued to slide on the roof.

Most likely, the damage to the car means it won’t be back on the road anytime soon, if ever. Considering the driver’s behavior, he probably should have taken a break from driving, too.
