Nissan India had a great chance to retain some market share when it announced the launch of X-Trail in India. However, they almost dispelled such thoughts. The SUV starts at a whopping Rs 49.92 lakh (ex-showroom). Indians hoped that the X-Trail would be a strong competitor to the Fortuner, but the Nissan SUV is much more expensive than the diesel 4×4 automatic Fortuner. The petrol version of the Fortuner is priced at up to Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). This price does not account for the fact that the X-trail still lacks a hybrid powertrain and even a four-wheel drive option.
Nissan X-Trail price comparison with competitors
car | Price (factory price) | |
1. | Nissan X-Trail | 49.92 lakhs |
2. | Toyota Fortuner | 33.43 – 51.44 lakh rupees |
3. | Skoda Kodiaq | Rs.39.99 lakh |
4. | Jeep Meridian | Rs. 29.49 – 39.83 lakh |
5. | Gloucester | 38.80 – 43.16 lakh rupees |
6. | Volkswagen Tiguan | Rs.35.17 lakh |
In the above comparison, the most expensive SUV should be the X-trail. In terms of CBU, petrol automatic, unibody chassis and 7-seater layout, the only rival that can match it is the Skoda Kodiaq, which outdoes the X-trail with its 4WD option and a host of luxury features and feel. In this comparison, the price difference of Rs 10 lakh is fatal for the X-Trail.
The X-trail is a large SUV. It rivals the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Citroen C5 Aircross. This SUV is taller than all three. It is smaller than the Fortuner and MG’s Gloster. However, its muscular front, tall body and 210 mm ground clearance make it stand out.
- Length: 4,680mm
- Width: 1,840mm
- Height: 1,725mm
- Wheelbase: 2,705mm
Nissan X-Trail’s excellent engine and transmission
The powertrain and drivetrain of this SUV are excellent. The engine and its efficiency-performance combination are absolutely impeccable. On paper, it may look small, but surprisingly, it is a very active engine.
engine: 1.5-litre inline 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 12V mild hybrid technology.
The engine is a patented variable compression unit that is also extremely powerful and efficient when needed.
strength: 163 hp at 4800 rpm
exchange: 300Nm between 2800-3600 rpm
The torque produced so low in the rev range is enormous, which explains the huge pulling power this SUV has.
Transmission type: Drive-by-wire CVT
The introduction of shift-by-wire will help reduce the rubber-band effect during acceleration.
Design and Features
The X-Trail is tall and adopts the traditional SUV body design language. The front face adopts split headlights and the front grille adopts the iconic “V-Motion” dark chrome. The silver front guard gives it a rugged look. The raised hood edge and rounded wheel arches give it a muscular look. It uses 20-inch multi-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels and wraparound LED taillights.
