Submitted by Rachel Jacobson of Oak View Group

Dubuque, Iowa – Oak View Group, operator of Grand River Center, is partnering with KultureCity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inclusive and accessible services for those with sensory needs. This important milestone underscores our commitment to inclusive and accessible services for all our guests.

KultureCity’s Sensory Inclusion Program has been widely recognized in venues, arenas, cultural institutions and across the country. The program is designed to create welcoming environments for sensory-sensitive individuals by providing comprehensive training for staff, equipping venues with sensory tools, and providing resources to support guests with sensory needs.

“The goal of Oak View Group, and our partners in the City of Dubuque, has always been to make guests feel welcome at Grand River Center. We are proud to work with KultureCity to receive specialized training and resources to enhance our ability to accommodate guests with special sensitivities,” said Ryan Bonifas, General Manager of Grand River Center at Oak View Group.

The entire team at Grand River Center has successfully completed the certification process. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience and ensuring our venue is accessible to everyone, regardless of their sensory needs. Our team undergoes extensive training to identify and assist guests with sensory sensitivities, and we have integrated sensory tools and resources throughout our facility. Our sensory packs include noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, stress-relief tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted knee pads, all designed to support guests who may feel overwhelmed by their surroundings.

Congratulations Dubuque Mayor Brad Kavanagh said, “Thank you to the Grand River Center staff and OVG for receiving this certification. The City is proud to partner with an organization that is committed to inclusion and openness to all, and appreciates their investment in training to make this a welcoming place.”

Before visiting Grand River Center, families can download the free KultureCity App to explore sensory features and their locations. The app also provides social stories to preview what to expect during the visit. Using this app, everyone can stay informed and prepared, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
