What to Expect What cars will you see at the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Fall Auction, October 10-13 at WestWorld? A little bit of everything. If you like exotic supercars, you’ll find them there. Same with muscle cars. A big fan of classic American cars? You’ll see a few at the auction (and you might get the winning bid on your favorite). If you’re more into high-performance trucks, don’t worry—they’ll be at the event, too. In fact, we’ve highlighted a few of them below.
Modified 1990 Chevrolet 454 SS
Think of it as the original modern sport truck. Introduced in 1990, the Chevrolet 454 SS predated the first-generation Ford F-150 SVT lightning and long before the Viper V10-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10. It set the template for sport trucks of the time: a single-cab pickup with plenty of power under the hood, a short bed and rear-wheel drive.
Chevrolet initially offered a C1500 with the top-of-the-line Silverado trim and a 6.5-foot short bed, then added Onyx Black paint, black trim and a Garnet Red cloth interior, along with bucket seats, a center console, cruise control, and power locks and windows.
They gave the show a segment-exclusive go-to. According to Chevy’s 1990 truck brochure, the SS 454 had “the largest V8 ever offered in a regular production half-ton pickup.” As the name implies, the engine was a massive 454ci V8. Factory output was 230 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. A three-speed automatic transmission sent the power to the rear wheels. Chevy installed a 3.73:1 rear end with a locking differential and a performance handling package to direct the 454 SS’s firepower in the right direction.
This example has only traveled 4,658 miles since new. During its run, the truck was lowered and equipped with a ProCharger supercharger that produces up to 9 pounds of boost, as well as a 3-inch mandrel-bent dual exhaust system.
If you’re a purist, then you can rest assured that this 454 SS will come with its original disassembled parts as well as the original window sticker, title papers, and ProCharger manual.
2020 Ford F-150 Shelby Super Snake Sport
When the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor hit showrooms, the basic characteristics of a high-performance pickup changed dramatically. Instead of lying low to the ground and sending power to the street through the rear wheels, it uses all-wheel drive and V8 power to fly across dirt at high speeds and jump over sand dunes at nerve-wracking speeds.
Luckily, some companies continue to build street-legal sports trucks. While Shelby is known for building faster, more capable Mustangs, it doesn’t hesitate to work its tuning magic on its trucks. This 477-mile 2020 Shelby Super Snake Sport Ford F-150 doesn’t lie in the grass waiting to attack—its front splitter, hood scoop, side pipes, and tonneau cover that doubles as a rear spoiler make it clear that it’s ready to sink its fangs into sports cars and other fast pickups. It attacks with a fury of 770 horsepower, generated by its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine.
