Peugeot says the E-3008 apparently offers comparable range performance to the ICE, but we’re not so sure

- The carmaker has not yet provided any details about charging stations during the Paris to Nice trip.
- All Peugeot E-3008 Long Range models use a 96.9 kWh battery pack.
Peugeot proudly claims that the new E-3008 Long Range has completed the journey between Paris and Nice with “just two charging stops” and, according to the carmaker, it sets “a new benchmark in long-range electric vehicle performance”. While the automaker seems proud of the achievement, it doesn’t seem all that impressive.
Peugeot took the wraps off the new E-3008 in September. The stylish SUV features a 96.9 kWh battery with a claimed WLTP range of 435 miles (700 km). That’s a very solid number that’s comparable to some other electric SUVs from China, which is leading the way in advanced EV battery technology.

A quick search on Google Maps shows the distance between Paris and Nice to be between 583 miles (938 kilometers) and 633 miles (1,019 kilometers), depending on the route taken. Stellantis did not provide specific details about the route it chose for the journey, saying only that it was a journey of about 620 miles (about 1,000 kilometers). It added that “limited motorway speeds of up to 81 mph (130 km/h) were maintained during the journey, with average temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius.” Peugeot also did not reveal the average speed of the trip, nor the E-3008 Time plugged in between charges.
All we know is that the first leg was completed after 211 miles (340 kilometers), and the second leg was completed after another 227 miles (366 kilometers).
Peugeot parent company Stellantis claims that vehicles based on the STLA mid-size platform such as the E-3008 offer performance “comparable to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles that stop for refueling and driver rest”. But, let’s be honest, there are plenty of internal combustion engine vehicles that can travel the entire distance without stopping.
Stellantis added: “The STLA mid-range and long-range version is the only platform in its class capable of driving almost 1,000 kilometers on the highway with just two charging stations.” While this statement sounds good, it would not be possible without the “charging stop” The details are meaningless. If each stop requires the battery to charge from 5% to 100%, that is very different from a charge stop where the battery only charges from 70% to 100%. There’s also no word on EV charging speeds.
The company’s simulations show that its electric cars based on the STLA Medium platform can also travel from Turin to Naples and from Prague to Brussels, with two charging stations each. We’ve reached out to Stellantis for more information on E-3008’s journey from Paris to Nice and will update this story when we hear back.
