Pick of the Day: 1932 Ford Roadster Pickup

have you heard of it “AMBR” competition? Pronounced “Amber,” this abbreviation stands for America’s most beautiful roadster. It’s an annual event that attracts more than 500 entrants and ends with one car being voted “most beautiful”. 2024 event in Pomona, CA sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts. This is a vehicle built with AMBR in mind:

The Pick of the Day is a 1932 Ford Roadster pickup truck for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Gatesville, Texas. (Click the link to see the list)

“Energetic” is the first word that comes to mind when first seeing this list. The longer you look, the more attractive the truck becomes—the slim windshield, the shaved door handles, the subtle white pinstripes—every detail is thoughtfully considered. The cargo box is lined with wood panels and stainless steel hardware, and the footwork comes from a set of one-off custom aluminum wheels from Mike Curtis. Some of the most beautiful parts on the truck aren’t even visible to the naked eye; the undercarriage is fully polished stainless steel. In fact, this looks to be a worthy AMBR contender!

Inside, seating is provided by a neatly upholstered white vinyl bench with tufted stitching and gold accents. The overall theme is “less is more” – no heater, no radio, no distractions – just an intimate cockpit in which to enjoy the open road and the wind in your hair. Vehicle vital signs are communicated through a set of Classic Instruments gauges.

Housed under the side-opening hood is a 265ci flathead V8 engine with a Stromberg carburetor. The transmission is a Tremec T5 five-speed manual with a fully polished Winters Performance “quick-change” rear end and a 4.11:1 ratio. “Ready to drive or show,” the listing reads. I guess the only thing that makes the truck unsuitable for everyday use is its open-top layout and lack of climate control.

But who cares about material comforts when you can look this good? Incidentally, the AMBR competition is judged by industry veterans on criteria such as overall design, chassis, engine, interior, paint quality, and fit and finish. The listing doesn’t say how much of a finalist this truck is, but I think it performed well based on the build quality. The seller provides a 30-second walk-around video showing the interior of the engine bay and cab.

The asking price for this track model is $135,000.
