Pick of the Day: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Lots of engineering innovation 1957 Chevrolet design. The front end has been revised with a “bold front end” where the bumper merges with the grille to create a unified look. There are air intakes on the top of the headlights to provide a source of ventilation. But most importantly, the ’57 Chevy displayed the unmistakable signature spoiler of the era.

Today’s pick is a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door car for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Knoxville, Iowa. (Click the link to see the list)

The listing begins: “Ruby was purchased in 1993 and is in the same drivable and cosmetic condition as you see today.” The car’s equipment list is relatively light, which makes maintenance and ownership costs simple. The car has manual steering, manual four-drum brakes, and no air conditioning.

However, what this car lacks in modern detailing, it makes up for in its overall straightness and originality. The seller says the chassis is solid and only a few areas were touched up during the restoration (dents in the passenger floor and spare tire in the trunk). Exterior upgrades include a set of chrome five-spoke wheels and a dual exhaust system. The black and red interior matches the bodywork, and the cabin’s push-button radio and simple but attractive dashboard retain an unmodified feel.

“This is the ’57 the engineers whistled,” Chevrolet touted. “Everything from the bold front end to the tips of the flying rear fenders bears the stamp of advanced engineering… Anyone interested in future automotive design must see and experience this engineering.” The 1957 Chevrolet was indeed a hit Welcome, the model sold more than 1.5 million units that year.

The car’s engine is reportedly a 327ci Turbo-Fire V8 transplanted from a 1966 or 1967 model year. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. “You can drive it home and it will cruise at 65 mph,” the listing reads. The car is reportedly owned by the mechanic’s family, so the car has been maintained in-house and the “issues” are said to have been fixed.

“Overall, this is a very solid car that could be upgraded to make it your own, or just drive it and show it for what it is made of,” the seller concludes.

Now is your chance to join the ranks of owners of a fashion-forward 1957 Chevrolet. Asking price is $45,000 or best offer.
