The C1 Corvette was introduced in 1953, but only 300 were produced that year. However, the idea of a two-seat sports car took off, and by the late 1950s, Chevrolet was selling more than 10,000 cars a year. This car was one of 9,670 sold in 1959.
The seller says: “The paint and interior are very clean. The chrome trim and bumpers are in very good condition. The convertible top functions very well and does not have any tears.” The Roman Red exterior is the perfect shade for a hot classic, and the wide white tires The tires give it period charm.
To keep things interesting, the Chevrolet design team makes equipment and appearance changes every year. The 1959 model was the last year for rear fender-mounted taillights. Chevrolet says: “This is the ’59 version of America’s only honest sports car. The changes aren’t earth-shattering when you read about them—but wait until you drive the car.”
Beyond the looks, updates include a new “parallelogram” rear suspension that helps put power to the road. The seats were modified for a better fit, the gearbox was reverse-locked, the brakes were updated, the driving position was changed, and the gauges were redesigned to be easier to read. Although the changes are mostly small, the changes are significant.
Power for the car reportedly comes from a matching 283ci V8 engine, with a three-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. “Vehicle drives great,” the seller says.
As Chevrolet advertises, “The ’59 has been honed, polished and refined. Now we can safely say that not only is this a true sports car, but it handles, rides and is more stable than any other car in the world.” All sports cars are better than one!” Chevrolet declared.
