The example we have here is the exact same color combination used in The Man with the Golden Gun. The seller describes this Hornet as having the original six-cylinder engine that was refurbished in 2020 and paired with a three-speed Torque Command automatic transmission.
They added that the car has a new paint job and a redone factory-correct interior. The car needs a carburetor gasket replaced, but the tires are new. When all was said and done, it only had 50 miles on it and seemed like a pretty good example.
The AMC Hornet used in the spiral jump in “The Man with the Golden Gun” features a 5.9-liter V8 engine, custom widened track and Cragar S/S wheels. The movie car also features rally stripes, an X logo and a sports steering wheel.
The spiral-jumping river stunt in the movie was real and did not use miniatures before the advent of CGI effects. On June 1, 1974, stuntman Loren “Bumps” Willert completed a spiral jump during a shoot, even though he had never attempted it before. After Willert completed his stunt, Roger Moore handed him a glass of champagne and said, “You guys really made me look good.”
The best part about this Hornet is the price, which is only $8,995, making it the most affordable James Bond car.
