Learning from the trials and tribulations of others can be extremely valuable, providing insight into the problems encountered and solutions found so that others can plan their events better prepared than before. Every year, a variety of events take place across the United States, each with their own lessons learned (and maybe even an idea you can introduce at your own event), some of which are shared below.
Event Case Study: The Walmart Experience at CES 2024
Walmart participated in the CES technology conference in Las Vegas for the first time. Walmart executives worked with longtime partner Leo Events to make the debut memorable. What emerged was a two-story, 50′ x 140′ museum-style walk-through activation that contained the company’s history, displays of new technologies the company was using, and a 4D experience that took visitors through a product’s journey from inception to maturity. MPI’s Southern California WeCon 2024 in Newport Beach, California is an exercise in reinvention. After contacting Visit Newport Beach, MPI SoCal’s team was able to make the changes they wanted, such as engaging attendees’ personal lives and creating a personalized experience. Jennifer Minzey, Vice President of Education at MPI Southern California, also shared some of the lessons she learned during this event planning.
Seattle ARVO conference shines light on lingering international travel challenges
The annual meeting of the Society for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology is known as one of the industry’s premier events for sharing research results. Given this reputation, its international attendances were high – pre-Covid. The conference, like many others, has had its ups and downs since its cancellation in 2020, but it presented unique logistical difficulties given that so many attendees were from the United States.
