Software updates will also enable Apple Wallet to accommodate and share car keys

- The 2026 Polestar 3 will be equipped with the new NVIDIA DRIVE AGX ORIN processor.
- The owner of the existing model can upgrade to the new chip for free.
- Software updates allow Apple Wallet to “hold” the owner’s car keys.
Wireless software updates are very common these days, but when was the last time you heard about free hardware upgrades? Nothing is possible to think of, but that’s exactly what the Polestar 3 owners get.
In an announcement earlier today, the automaker revealed that the 2026 Polestar 3 will be equipped with a new, more powerful NVIDIA DRIVE AGX ORIN processor. It replaces the current Xavier processor and allows for “greater computing power”.

While it’s not surprising to see the latest models get new technology from the factory, Polestar announced that new processors will also be installed in existing vehicles. The hardware upgrade will be conducted in the Polestar service center and will be contacted when the processor is ready to be installed in the vehicle.
“The ability to upgrade automotive hardware when new technologies are available is our commitment to providing our customers with the best ownership experience. With the upgrade of the Orin processor, the already excellent Polestar 3 has become better.”

In addition to announcing hardware updates, Polestar also revealed new over-the-air software updates for 2, 3 and 4. Details vary by vehicle, but most are smaller adjustments to stability and convenience.
That being said, the Polestar 3 is getting several notable upgrades, including walking lock, wireless Apple Carplay and digital key support for Android devices (Samsung and Google Pixel). Apple users have not been forgotten yet because they can now store their car keys in Apple Wallet.
This means that the owner will be able to “auto-unlock or lock and start the vehicle when you put your iPhone in your pocket or just wear an Apple Watch.” On top of that, customers can use messages, emails, airdrops and WhatsApp with up to five Personal car sharing keys. Interestingly, these shared keys can provide full access, or only allow people to unlock doors but not drive.
