Porsche has revealed its Project Sonderwunsch at Monterey Car Week 2024, unveiling a stunning 993-based speedster. This one-of-a-kind creation was commissioned by a hardcore Porsche enthusiast and collector to fill the last gap in his “extensive” speedster collection.

While Porsche offered Speedster versions of its G-series and 964 models, the 993 never received the same treatment—officially, at least. In fact, only two 993 Speedsters ever left Stuttgart: a green version built in 1995 to celebrate Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s 60th birthday, and a silver version built in 2001 for comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Now, a third rare car has joined the ranks: a yellow 993 Speedster owned by Italian-born architect and industrial designer Luca Trazzi.

This factory-exclusive, custom-made model from the Porsche Sonderwunsch project stands out from its predecessors with its unique design and technical components. The project began with a 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet that was completely transformed, including a redesigned roof, a redesigned rear end and a completely reworked interior.
Because of the client’s background, he was “deeply involved” in the development process, even bringing his own drafts and sketches.
The model features a unique rear bonnet with a signature bulge, designed by the customer himself. It is complemented by a redesigned canvas roof and a shorter windshield, giving it a typical Speedster look. Other custom elements include retro-style tapered mirrors and a Turbo-style body kit with a unique front bumper, side skirts and rear quarter panels.
Porsche designers worked their magic on the lighting, incorporating modern four-point LEDs into the tinted headlights and reinterpreting the full-width taillights and indicators. The Speedster rides on 18-inch Turbo wheels, finished in black with striking yellow pinstripes. The donor vehicle was originally yellow, but now has a vibrant Otto Yellow paint job, custom-made for the customer, named after his dog.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather with contrasting yellow stitching, and the seats feature a hand-stitched checkered pattern. This custom treatment extends to the luggage compartment and the matching travel bag. The interior also features carbon fiber trim, including the seatbacks and illuminated door sills.

Even the power window switches feature custom logos with the Speedster silhouette, there’s also a unique badge on the dashboard, and Speedster embroidery on the headrests. Finally, the Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment system combines classic looks with navigation and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Such a massive development programme couldn’t afford to neglect the basics. Porsche went all out, sourcing the engine, steering and brakes from the 911 Carrera RS, the lightweight legend of 1994 and 1995. At its heart is a naturally aspirated, air-cooled, 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with an output of around 300 hp (224 kW / 304 hp). Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Porsche 993 Speedster will make its debut at The Quail race car gathering in Monterey. After the event, this one-of-a-kind creation will be shipped to Europe, where it will eventually be picked up by its owner. As for the price? Porsche is keeping that a secret.
