Porsche made a useless 2-seat sedan just to beat Tesla

  • Taycan Turbo GT Weissach is the fastest accelerated car tested to date
  • Porsche surpasses Tesla models’ lattice, sober air sapphire and Ferrari SF90 Stradale
  • It sets the fourth fastest lap ever in the magazine’s Eight-Performance Course.

Electric cars are no longer just efficiency, but become a comprehensive performance monster. Sure, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Ultra may be covering up some bragging rights by knocking out the Taycan Turbo GT on several tracks, but don’t get me wrong: Porsche’s flagship EV is still an absolute weapon. Not only does it provide crazy acceleration, it is also equally impressive in terms of braking and handling, just as the motor trend has recently discovered.

While testing the Taycan Turbo GT on the flagship Weissach-style flagship wooden wood, its rear seats recorded a stunning 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in a typical kick-out program. This is 2.10 seconds without pushing. To put it in context, the 1.89-second sprint is not only 0.05 seconds faster than the standard Taycan Turbo GT, but it is 0.18 seconds ahead of the Tesla Model S Glaid, but it is not small.

Faster than fast

This acceleration puts Porsche ahead of some serious elite competitions. It beat the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano’s 2.10 seconds and beat the Lucid Air Sapphire’s 2.16-second figure. In fact, it is now the fastest car that has been tested in its 76-year history.

The quarter-mile time of the car trend may be more impressive. The electric Porsche rushed into the resistance band in 9.23 seconds at 150.1 mph. This will only lag behind the Lucid Air Sapphire, which puts a quarter-mile of 9.21 seconds at a speed of 157.1 mph. It also handles well, as the model’s various single-lank records show, and is the fastest sedan to be tested around the graphic test course of the publication.

In the test, the flagship electric Porsche had a time of 21.86 seconds, pulling out an average of 1.03 grams. It was the fourth most exaggerated period ever, with the only Z07-pack Chevrolet Corvette Z06 second only to the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and close to the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren 765LT.

Braking performance is equally impressive. The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach only stopped from 60 mph in 93 feet. Moreover, when charging is needed, the efficiency of electric vehicles is equally effective, and it only takes 19 minutes to increase from 5% to 80% using a high-speed charger.

But what is the cost?

The tested examples are priced at $233,395. There is no doubt that it’s a lot of money, especially compared to the $94,900 commanded by the Tesla Model S lattice, although it’s cheaper than the $250,575 Lucid Air Sapphire.

Besides Tesla’s price gap, it’s also worth noting that Porsche must introduce an optional Weissach package, which, among other weight saving measures, can remove the entire rear seats to make the model S lattice stand out. Meanwhile, Tesla’s sedan retains the entire five-seat layout, providing everyday practicality, and the two-seat taycans simply cannot match.
