The Bigster SUV is essentially a stretched three-row version of the new-generation Duster sold in international markets
Earlier this year, the new generation Renault Duster was launched in Türkiye. Preparations for the launch of the three-row Bigster model are now underway. The new Duster and Bigster are expected to contribute significant sales to Renault and its group company Dacia.
Renault Bigster SUV trailer
The Bigster will debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show and bear the Dacia badge. The event is scheduled to take place from October 14th to 20th. Prior to this, Dacia had released some trailers confirming the name of the “Bigster”. In terms of styling, the Bigster SUV will be basically the same as the new-generation Duster. However, the Bigster will dominate on the road thanks to its larger size. The new Duster is 4,343 mm long, while the Bigster is 4,600 mm long. Rivals of the Bigster include Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
The Dacia Bigster teaser shows the V-shaped taillights, which are the same as the new generation Duster. However, there appear to be some changes to the rear tailgate. The Renault-owned Bigster is expected to have brand-specific changes. For example, grille designs, logos, badges, etc. These changes will also be seen in the interior. The metal body parts of the Dacia Bigster and Renault Bigster are basically the same.
Bigster – Specs, Performance
The Dacia/Renault Bigster SUV will borrow most of the equipment from the new generation Duster. Both SUVs are based on the CMF-B platform. Many parts will be common, such as body panels, instrument panels, seats, steering wheels and most mechanical components. Although the Bigster’s engine option has not been officially confirmed yet, it is likely to be the same as the new-generation Duster. The latter is available with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engines.
Depending on market conditions, Bigster will be available in both 4X2 and 4X4 formats. The SUV will be able to offer dynamic performance through terrain modes such as Snow, Off-Road, Mud/Sand, Auto and Eco.
Greater India launch
The Bigster is expected to be launched in India after the new-generation Renault Duster. The latter is scheduled to arrive in India in the second half of 2025. There will be a gap of around 6 months between the launch of the new generation Duster and Bigster in India.
Nissan will also launch the next-generation Duster and Bigster versions in India. The models will have unique styling, with changes to the front fascia and rear. The Renault Duster presents a rugged design, while the Nissan version emphasizes refinement and a more futuristic vibe.
The Renault-Nissan tie-up in India will lead to another pair of sibling models, possibly electric vehicles. The launch of these new products will play a vital role in helping Renault-Nissan increase domestic sales.
