In addition, the night owl chirps and zombie walkers from previous Halloween updates will also return for a limited time.
- The Rivian R1T and R1S are dressed up for the Halloween season and receive a special software update.
- Highlights include graphics, lighting and sound effects inspired by KITT and the DeLorean Time Machine.
- These tricks are valid until November 4, and most only work when the electric car is parked.
Rivian is coming up with more creative ways to get “spooky” this Halloween. The automaker announced a new software update for 2024 that adds “car costumes” inspired by the “Knight Rider” TV series and “Back to the Future” movies, as well as several Halloween-themed features.
Both R1T and R1S will be updated for a limited time from October 18th to November 4th. The highlight is that the Rivian EV can use custom infotainment graphics as well as lightning and sound effects,

The Knight Rider costume turns your Rivian light bar into the iconic red scanner of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am originally driven by David Hasselhoff. The actor even reprized his famous role and made a cameo behind the wheel of a Rivian R1T.
The Cavalier’s treatment is more extensive inside the cabin. Rivian’s 15-inch infotainment display becomes a replica of the KITT diagnostic panel, with dozens of colorful buttons, while the audio system plays introductory music from the popular series.
The next trick-or-treat special is inspired by Back to the Future. The product replicates the DeLorean Time Machine’s interface on a digital cockpit, with matching speaker sound effects. Plus, the “88 mph” button activates the exterior light show, making your time-traveling DeLoRivian even more eye-catching.
The third option is “Haunted Rivian Car Costume,” which lets you choose between eight sound effects and three color themes. Depending on the chosen car costume, the Gear Guard characters on the app will dress up like the Knight, Doc Brown, or the Scarecrow.
While fun is great, safety is a priority, which means the above tricks only work when the vehicle is parked. Additionally, the exterior lightning effect is reserved for the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S models, utilizing their light bars.
In addition to the car costumes, the electric car also replaces the locking sounds with different types of owl hoots. Digital dashboards turn pedestrians into zombies, while cyclists and motorcyclists look like headless horsemen. Finally, camp mode now features crows, pumpkins, and green blazes, and driving mode has similar Halloween-specific graphics.
This isn’t the first time Rivian has made Halloween a little more special for customers, with the automaker rolling out similar updates in 2022 and 2023.
