The special graphic on the hood was inspired by the “casual elegance of coastal California”
- Rolls-Royce has unveiled a one-off version of the Spectre EV called the Semaphore.
- The car’s design is inspired by California, with yellow as the main color and a “marbled paint spill” hood.
- The EV will make its public debut on August 16 at The Quail: A Motorsport Gathering.
Rolls-Royce is known for offering a wide range of bespoke personalisation options, and its latest model lives up to expectations. The Rolls-Royce Spectre Semaphore is a limited edition of the electric car, featuring a special paint job and unique artwork on the hood.
The model gets its name from the custom Signal Yellow color of the body. However, the most striking feature is the “marbled paint spill” hood. The company describes the artwork as “an abstract tribute to California and its diverse environment” and claims it was inspired by “the informal elegance of California’s coastal regions.”

The result looks like someone splashed paint on the hood of the Spectre and then drove it on a twisty road. However, the process was much more complicated, with Rolls-Royce employees applying silver paint and multiple layers of clear lacquer to achieve a “seamless finish.” In the end, the design, development, and production of the hood alone took more than 160 hours, demonstrating that personalization takes time and patience.
The bright color theme of the exterior is continued inside, with a tasteful combination of custom lemon yellow and citrine yellow for the interior, and matching dials on the instrument panel. The different shades of yellow complement the soft colors of Grace White and Slate Grey.
The wood inserts on the dashboard are in Cashmere Grey and infused with silver mica flakes. Finally, the door sills are adorned with a Pebble Beach 2024 Special Commission plaque, next to the Goodwood factory production stamp.
As with most custom models, the chassis of the Rolls-Royce Spectre remains unchanged. The all-electric powertrain produces 577 hp (430 kW / 584 PS) and 660 lb-ft (895 Nm) of torque, fed by a 120 kWh battery pack. The latter gives a range of 266 miles (428 km), so you can freely show off your “marbled paint” around town.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre Semaphore will be on display at The Quail motorsports gathering on August 16 as part of the 2024 Monterey Car Week in California. As with most custom Rolls-Royces, the automaker didn’t reveal any pricing details, but it’s a safe bet that the Semaphore adds a few zeros to the Spectre’s suggested retail price.
