Royal Enfield launched the latest member of the Classic series – Royal Enfield Classic 650 at the 2024 EICMA Auto Show in Milan. The Classic 650 is an enlarged version of the venerable Classic series, equipped with a 650cc parallel-twin engine known for its low-end acceleration and smooth throttle response. This motorcycle is Royal Enfield’s response to the need for a more powerful mid-size option while maintaining the recognizable Royal Enfield look and feel.
Main features and design
The Classic 650 stays true to the classic design elements of its predecessor, with updated aesthetics and functionality. The bike’s styling includes a retro-style round headlight, sculpted fuel tank and elaborate fenders. The “frame ring” design links this model to earlier models such as the Thunderbird and Super Meteor, maintaining continuity with the brand’s heritage. Available colors include Teal, Vallam Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue and Black Chrome, paying homage to the popular Classic 500 color scheme while adding fresh visual appeal.
The Royal Enfield Classic 650 features wider tires, a new ergonomic riding position and shorter fender design for a sportier stance. Thanks to the well-positioned handlebars and wide seat, riders get a riding experience that’s suitable for city traffic and comfortable for long-distance travel. The motorcycle’s chassis is shared with the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 and is designed for balance and stability on all terrains.
Engine and performance
At the heart of the Classic 650 is a 647.95cc inline twin-cylinder engine with an output of 34.6 kW at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm. The engine is tuned to support the Classic’s smooth and controlled riding experience. Riders will appreciate its 6-speed transmission, which is designed for seamless shifting to enhance both city and highway riding experiences. The engine setup also includes Royal Enfield’s standard forced lubrication system, while dual-channel ABS supports safe braking via 320mm front and 300mm rear discs.
Technology and customization options
The Classic 650 incorporates modern conveniences such as a digital LCD display that displays basic information such as fuel level, trip meter and gear position. Additionally, the motorcycle also comes with a USB Type-C charging port. For those interested in personalization, Royal Enfield offers ‘Classic’ and ‘Classic Touring’ themed accessory packs that allow riders to customize their bike to suit personal preferences.
