The Interceptor Bear 650 is the first scrambler motorcycle based on the Royal Enfield 650cc platform and may be the lightest

Royal Enfield rewrote the rules of motorcycles with multi-cylinder large-displacement engines with the 650 Twins. Starting with the Interceptor 650 and GT Continental 650, Royal Enfield has significantly expanded its 650 portfolio. The latest addition to the range is the Interceptor 650-based Scrambler, which has just made its global debut with a release date of November 5th.

Iconic motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has emerged as India’s de facto provider of classic and retro mobility solutions. This behemoth has been dominating two lucrative segments in India – the 350cc to 450cc segment and the 500cc+ segment. With almost no competitors, Royal Enfield has secured its spot at the top of the list.

Their latest product is a Scrambler style motorcycle based on the Interceptor 650. Called the Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650, the name symbolizes Eddie Mulder’s historic victory at the 1960 Big Bear Run. The latest trailer of Royal Enfield features the voice of famous racer Eddie Mulder, stuntman and bike builder.

Compared to the Interceptor 650 on which it is based, the new Scrambler is more attractive. First, there are 5 new colors to choose from, as shown below. The first color is mainly bright yellow, supplemented by white and black elements, creating a sporty atmosphere. Some color combinations are painted on the main frame and subframe.

The overall silhouette is almost identical to the Interceptor 650 on which it is based. We don’t think this is a bad thing. The body side panels now feature rounded elements. The headlights are LED, and the taillights and turn signals are also LED. The one-piece seat appears to be raised slightly to give it a Scrambler look.

The front suspension has been upgraded to USD telescopic forks instead of the RSU telescopic forks on the Interceptor 650. These USD forks are from Showa and should allow for sportier handling. The rear suspension on the Interceptor Bear 650 is still a dual shock setup, but may be tuned differently.

What have changed?

The instrumentation has also been upgraded and we can now see the TFT Tripper Dash that supports music control and Google Maps. The main highlights of the Interceptor Bear 650 are the new tires designed by MRF specifically for this motorcycle and the new single exhaust. This exhaust pipe is slightly upturned, possibly making the Interceptor Bear 650 the lightest RE 650cc bike.

It will be powered by the same 648cc parallel twin engine as other RE650 products. The engine will produce a peak power of approximately 46 bhp and a peak torque of 56.5 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. As far as the price is concerned, we expect the starting price to be around Rs 3.5-3.6 lakh (excluding taxes). Will be released at EICMA on November 5th.
