Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille started a special outreach program from March 26 to 28 to strengthen tourism partnerships and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
As part of the outreach program, Minister Derrill will showcase South Africa in South Africa as an attractive recreation and mouse destination along with Ghana Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the honorable Abla-dzifa Gomashie, South Africa-ghana Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Trade, major media and tourism stakeholders.
In November 2023, the easing of visa regulations between the two countries is a progressive step that helps unlock huge tourism potential. It also marks a new chapter in strengthening tourism and trade, creating a seamless journey for South Africans and Ghanaians to experience the beauty and diversity that Ghana and South Africa must offer. This development also opened the door to increasing business, leisure and cultural exchanges.
“Ghana and the continent wider continent are important markets for South Africa’s tourism industry. This visit reaffirms our commitment to deepening partnerships and unlocking growth opportunities through meaningful collaboration. Ghana’s outstanding performers have become an outstanding performer, recording an unusual 149.0% of tourists, in the 2024 tour, compared with the 36-year-old range in 2023 compared with the 36-year-old hiking tour in 2024. This is largely due to the introduction of visa waivers in November 2023, coupled with consistent marketing in South Africa’s tourism industry, that citizens of both countries have no visas within a year for up to 90 days,” said Minister Delaire.
Minister Delhir’s visit was of great significance as South Africa proudly hosted the year of the G20 summit, a major moment highlighting South Africa’s growing influence on the global stage and its commitment to building meaningful partnerships across the continent.
Minister Derel added: “We recognize the potential of intra-Africa travel in promoting economic development, cultural exchanges and common prosperity. It is for this reason that we are carrying out this promotional mission to strengthen relations and partnerships with our peers in Ghana.”
The outreach program will also enable senior officials from both countries to further participate in bilateral tourism issues and strengthen relations.
