Scott Galloway hosted Sunday night’s main stage with his signature fast-talking and brash style, sharing what he thinks we can expect this year in business, marketing, and more, officially kicking off 2025 Leadership Conference.
Not surprisingly, artificial intelligence took up much of the 30-minute speech, including Galloway’s prediction that Meta will be the AI company of 2025. Nine out of ten Internet users (outside China) use Meta at least once a month, and the company has more unique human language data than Google Search, Reddit, Wikipedia, and X combined. That makes Meta the most powerful of them all, he said, “when you look at the most data — the most oil, the most fossil fuels, if you will — plus the most processing and refining capacity.”
He also talked about how artificial intelligence will continue to change how and what consumers buy. “The biggest mistake we make in marketing is believing that choice is a good thing,” Galloway said. “It’s not. It’s a tactic. Consumers don’t want more choices. They want to be more confident in the choices being offered and they want fewer choices.”
He points to TikTok (which he calls “Netflix plus AI”) as a prime example of how consumers will increasingly turn to AI-powered platforms to help make those choices, including travel recommendations. A recent survey conducted by SAP Concur revealed that almost all (95%) business travelers would consider using artificial intelligence to assist with booking travel.
Galloway also predicts that YouTube will be the viewing platform of 2025, specifically as it has become the largest distribution platform for what Galloway calls the medium of 2025: podcasts.
He pointed to the 2024 U.S. election as a turning point for media, particularly with Joe Rogan hosting then-President-elect Donald J. Trump on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience Donald J. Trump, a three-hour interview that received nearly 40 million views in just a short period of time. The first three days.
“About half of Americans have listened to a podcast in the last month, up from less than 10 percent 15 years ago,” Galloway said. “It’s also growing faster than any ad-supported media. It’s also emblematic of the winner-take-all environment in digital media. There are 600,000 podcasts publishing at least once a week, and the top 10 podcasts account for a third of all listeners , the top 100 account for two-thirds of all listeners.”
In 2024, Galloway added “Raging Moderates” with co-host Jessica Tarlov to his podcast lineup, which also includes “Raging Moderates” with co-host Jessica Tarlov “Pivot” with Kara Swisher, “Office Hours” and with co-host Eric Schmidt A collaborative podcast series: Markets, Conversations, and First-Era Founders.
In addition to the podcast, Galloway has founded nine companies during his entrepreneurial career, including RedEnvelope, an e-commerce site that sells personalized gifts, and digital intelligence companies L2 Inc and Section School. he is a new york times——Bestselling author four people, algebra of happiness, Post-Corona: From crisis to opportunityand Drifting: America in 100 Charts.
Galloway also warned young people of the dangers of becoming addicted to social media. He concluded his CL25 keynote with a heartfelt plea for men in the audience to mentor or look out for young people in their lives who may be struggling with loneliness and mental health issues, emphasizing the need for human connection in a digital society.
