- A Tesla Cybertruck that went viral on Reddit after being abandoned in Seattle is set to be auctioned off.
- The beat-up electric truck could be back on the road, but it would require extensive and expensive repairs.
- Copart is auctioning off several wrecked Cybertrucks, one of which has already attracted bids of $20,000.
The Tesla Cybertruck has always been surrounded by controversy, but the vehicle best known for its crashes is now taking on a new role – as an auction item. The beat-up electric car needs some repairs, but if someone is willing to pay for what will undoubtedly be a costly and lengthy repair, it could be back on the road.
This particular Cybertruck first made headlines a few months ago when it was found abandoned on the side of the road in Seattle with severe damage to the driver’s side rear wheel. What followed was a mixture of digital and real-world antics: Reddit posts, ephemeral tourist spots on Google Maps, and even local residents leaving flowers at its desolate resting place.

The viral moment ended in September when the vehicle was towed, and now, Jalopnik It was discovered first, landing at Copart’s North Seattle location, awaiting its next chapter.
What is the damage?
Details about the accident that put this Cybertruck out of production remain elusive, but the aftermath tells its own story. Apparently one of the rear wheels had taken a pretty big hit and was bent out of shape, indicating some serious suspension issues. The included fenders were also torn off the car, leaving the charging port exposed.
Anyone interested in bidding on this Cybertruck would be wise to check it out in person ahead of time. Tesla’s fragile cast aluminum frame could suffer ongoing structural damage from a collision, and if that’s the case, the cost of repair or replacement could be very high.

The ever-expanding cybertruck graveyard
Interestingly, this wasn’t the only Cybertruck to be damaged. Copart currently lists 11 other examples scattered across the United States, many of which appear to be doing worse than the Seattle star. Some of them appear to be more severely damaged than this one, but have already attracted bids. One particularly crude example (pictured below), which was involved in a serious crash that resulted in severe structural damage to the front, rear and sides, has attracted bids of over $20,000 at the time of writing.
