As far as powertrains are concerned, Tata Punch continues to offer the same 1.2L NA petrol and petrol+CNG options to choose from
Tata Motors, one of India’s leading carmakers, has been leading the SUV segment with sales of less than 4 million units. We’re talking about a segment where Tata dominates with the Punch, competing against the likes of the Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3. Now, Tata has undergone a major facelift with the Punch, with the popular SUV losing two trim levels in petrol and CNG options.
Tata Fist variant retuned
If we look at Tata Motors’ sales, Punch emerged as the company’s best-selling car with 13,711 units sold in September 2024 (Punch ICE and Punch EV). So anything that bothers, like, punches its best-selling car is a big deal. The same goes for around the holidays.
We say this because the variant that Tata Motors took off the shelves (possibly discontinued) was based on the adventure character, which is one level above the pure character. Under the Adventure role, we used to get Adventure, Adventure Rhythm, Adventure S and Adventure+ S trim levels.
At the end of October 2024, around the festive season, Tata Motors will officially remove the Adventure trim and Adventure Rhythm trim from its product line-up. The Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims of the Punch are likely to be discontinued, available in petrol-only and petrol+CNG dual-fuel variants.
The manual gearbox and AMT gearbox options have also been discontinued. Prices for the Adventure trim start at Rs 7 lakh (Ex-sh) (Adventure Petrol MT). Now, buyers who want to go above the base trim of the Pure persona will have to shell out Rs 7.60 lakh (Ex-sh) for the Adventure S trim with a single-pane sunroof.
The Punch Adventure AMT price started at Rs 7.60 lakh (Ex-sh) and now with the withdrawal of the above variants, the Adventure S AMT starts at Rs 8.20 lakh (Ex-sh). As far as the CNG variant is concerned, the Punch Adventure iCNG is priced starting at Rs 7.95 lakh (Ex-sh). Now, buyers have to buy the Adventure S iCNG at a price of Rs 8.55 lakh (excluding taxes).
The rest of the lineup remains similar
This move by Tata Motors could mean two things. First, the company is more aggressively pushing buyers to opt for sunroof-equipped models in the mid-range and trim levels above. Second, buyers prefer models with sunroofs, which has impacted manufacturers’ continued production of models without sunroofs.
Anyway, sunroofs have become a hot topic in the car town and we are not sure if this is a good thing for India as most parts of the country are hot and sunny. Aside from these changes, Punch appears to be the same as before.
