Should GM make an electric Cadillac luxury pickup truck?

Surprisingly, the Cadillac Lyriq’s front fascia fits a pickup truck perfectly

Should GM make an electric Cadillac luxury pickup truck?
  • The renderings imagine a Cadillac pickup truck based on the GMC Sierra EV platform.
  • Cadillac once launched the Escalade EXT, which is a pickup version of its flagship SUV.
  • This concept can blend luxury with practicality, providing comfort and functionality.

Let’s face it, GM already has most of the pickup truck market. Chevy for the average guy, GMC for those who like to remind their neighbors a little A better life, and a Hummer EV for those who prefer to evaporate their wallets, and maybe the Earth, considering it weighs as much as a small moon.

But what if GM decided to go all out and build a Cadillac pickup truck, a luxury flagship so luxurious that it made the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck look like something you’d buy at Hertz? So what happens? counter? Well, thanks to some overly ambitious renderings, we now have a glimpse of what this unnecessary excess might look like.

This digital fever dream comes from Kelsonica talented rendering artist, decided to take General Motors’ GMC Sierra EV and dip it into a bucket of Cadillac styling cues. General Motors’ flagship brand has been out of the pickup truck market for quite some time, but it’s no stranger to building high-end trucks, having previously launched a version of its Escalade pickup called the EXT.

The design doesn’t transplant the current Escalade’s looks onto the Sierra EV, but borrows them from the all-electric Lyriq. Because the Sierra EV’s front fascia is much larger than that of the Lyriq, the Cadillac element had to be stretched, which means the grille and vertical LED daytime running lights now tower like a skyscraper. Strangely enough, it works. The whole look suits the volume and shape of the pickup very well.

There are few other changes to the Sierra EV’s basic design, although the Caddy gets slightly larger wheels and, thankfully, it ditches those ugly orange reflectors on the fenders (seriously, who signed those at General Motors mirror?).

Perhaps the closest thing we’ve seen to a modern Cadillac pickup was built by a custom shop in Miami three years ago. Doms Garage Miami started with a regular Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and then transplanted it onto the front fascia of an Escalade. Remarkably, the end result looks very good.

So, what do you think? Should General Motors return to the luxury pickup market and give us the Cadillac truck we never asked for but now kind of want? Or is this best left as a render-driven fantasy? Let us know how you would style your dream luxury truck, or if this idea belongs in the “what could have been” automotive lobby. No matter what, we’re listening.
