As expected, the base version of the Kylaq is spotted with 16-inch steel wheels. It lacks a touchscreen unit and some other features such as a rear wiper
Ahead of its global debut, a test mule of the upcoming Skoda Kylaq has been spotted again, although this time it appears to be a base-spec variant. The Skoda Kylaq will be the first product to be launched in our market under its ‘India 2.5’ initiative, which will make its global debut on November 6. Kylaq will be the most affordable SUV launched by the Czech carmaker in India.
The latest spy photos offer a clear view of the base model’s cabin and interior. It comes with a 2-spoke steering wheel, analogue instrument cluster and gear lever, the same as that found in the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq. As expected from the lower version, it doesn’t have any touchscreen unit.
However, it does come with other features such as a split headlight setup with the headlights located below the daytime running lights. The test mule was equipped with 16-inch steel wheels with black rims and was missing the rear wiper and rear defogger, suggesting it was a base version.
However, on higher variants, Skoda’s subcompact SUV is likely to get a 10.1-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, auto air conditioning with rear vents and a single-pane sunroof. It will come with 6-way adjustable front seats with ventilation function. Safety features will include six airbags (standard), while it may also come with electronic stability control (ESC) and a 360-degree camera.
Mechanically, it will be powered by a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 115 PS and 178 Nm. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter. The Skoda Kylaq is expected to be priced at Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
It will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO, as well as sub-4m crossovers like the Maruti Fronx.
