With Skoda Kylaq, competition in the sub-4m SUV segment will intensify, with rivals including Nexon, Brezza, XUV3XO, Venue, Sonet, Magnite and Kiger
The sub-4 million SUV segment has become one of the most important market segments in the Indian automobile industry. In this segment, OEMs stand to gain valuable sales as it appeals to a wider audience. Skoda is now venturing into this segment for the first time, with recent test mules appearing to be closer to production. Let’s take a look.

Iconic carmaker Skoda has been working towards diversifying its product portfolio in India. SAVVIPL (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India) has been in trouble due to declining sales prospects and rumors of a 50% partnership with Mahindra. The launch of sub-$4 million products under the India 2.5 strategy is likely to strengthen its market position.
The first model launched under the India 2.5 strategy is the Skoda Kylaq, an SUV priced below 4 million. The company will launch the Skoda Kylaq on November 6 and will compete with established players like Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and the upcoming Nissan Magnite.
Before its launch, the Skoda Kylaq SUV was almost a production version. It will be positioned on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia and the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. We can see that the Skoda Kylaq has a long wheelbase and very little overhang.
When launched, the Skoda Kylaq will be the first vehicle to feature the company’s new Modern Solid design language. Looking at the spy shots, we can see a split headlight design with the LED DRL at the top and the headlight below. These are unlikely to be connected to DRL to control costs.
From the side, we can see the clean silhouette and thick C-pillar. The alloy wheels measure 16 inches and have a unique design. Body side panels, faux roof rails and an upright hood give it SUV appeal. The interior of this upcoming SUV has not yet been revealed.
what happens?
Internally, we can expect the Skoda Kylaq to have a lot of similarities with other Skoda cars like the Slavia and Kushaq. While a sunroof is likely to be available, we expect Skoda to offer features like ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera. Due to its underpinnings, it’s also likely to have a high crash rating.
In terms of power system, the Skoda Kylaq will be equipped with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, which may reach the Kushaq’s 114 horsepower and 178 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter. More details will be revealed in the future.
