Skoda Kylaq will go into production in October 2024

According to industry reports, Skoda will start production of its first compact SUV, Kylaq, in October 2024. The SUV is expected to be launched in the domestic market first and then abroad. Its annual production is likely to be between 50,000 and 70,000 units, or 4,100 to 5,800 units per month. Although Skoda is yet to announce the launch date of this SUV, the Kylaq is expected to land in our country early next year. It is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and equipped with the same engines as the Kushaq and Slavia. Read on for more details.

Skoda Kylaq: powertrain

The new Skoda SUV will be built on the MQB A0-IN platform that also powers the Slavia, Taigun and Kushaq. It is likely to be powered by the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine as the Slavia and Kushaq. The engine produces 114 hp and 175 Nm of torque and will be mated to either a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT.

Skoda Kylaq: design and features

Skoda is yet to release full images of its compact SUV. However, spy shots and official teasers show that the Kylaq will feature inverted L-shaped LED taillights, a redesigned grille, an aggressive bonnet and split LED headlights. Features-wise, it is likely to include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver display, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger and a sunroof. Skoda is likely to equip this SUV with electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and up to six airbags.

Skoda Kylaq: India launch timeline

The Kylaq SUV is likely to make its global debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. The production of the SUV will start from October 2024 and it is likely to go on sale here in February next year. In terms of market competition, Kylaq will compete with Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue.
