Frankfurt Airport introduces world-first 360-degree drill safety scanner
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has officially approved the future of Air Travel Security by the German Federal Police with the introduction of the QPS Walk2000 with the introduction of a 360-degree drill security scanner. After nearly a year of rigorous testing, this AI-powered technology is designed to transform the passenger screening process and provide a faster and more seamless experience.
Unlike traditional body scanners that require travelers to stop and raise their arms, the QPS Walk2000 allows passengers to walk through naturally, greatly reducing waiting time and reducing invasiveness in the safety process. Frankfurt is the first airport in the world to implement this scanner for routine use and plans to expand it beyond Concourse A of Terminal 1 A, including new checkpoints, including new terminal 3.
Alexander Laukenmann, head of Fraport AG Aviation Division, stressed the importance of this progress, noting that it sets new global standards for passenger safety. “Our collaboration with the German Federal Police is key to optimizing this technology and getting certified. This innovation is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience, making security checks faster and easier to be user-friendly by maintaining the highest safety standards. ”
The QPS Walk2000 operates using millimeter wave imaging, which detects hidden objects in real time without physical photography. If an alarm is triggered, security personnel can focus on specific areas rather than requiring full body recovery, making the process for passengers and employees more efficient.
Frankfurt Airport has invested €22 million safety enhancements including advanced CT systems and redesigned checkpoint lanes. Since taking responsibility for aviation safety in early 2023, Frankfurt Airport has worked closely with the German Federal Police to integrate cutting-edge technologies that balance efficiency with safety efficiency.
