  • Tim Fallon left Rivian before it began production of its smaller R2 and R3 models.
  • Prior to joining Rivian, Fallon served in various positions at Nissan Motor Company for 16 years.

Stellantis has hired Rivian’s former manufacturing chief to lead its North American manufacturing operations starting September 2.

Tim Fallon has been with Rivian for the past two years, most recently overseeing a massive transformation of the electric car maker’s factory in Normal, Ill., that will streamline production and reduce costs. Prior to joining Rivian, Fallon spent more than 16 years at Nissan in a variety of roles, including vice president of manufacturing Canton.

Rivian has appointed logistics chief Carlo Materazzo to oversee production. Interestingly, Materazzo was a former executive at Stellantis.

At Stellantis, outgoing North American manufacturing head Mike Resha will oversee the company’s global injection molding and stamping operations.

“Tim will bring his relentless pursuit of operational excellence and his extensive record of manufacturing experience, including electric vehicle production, to Stellantis as we enter a critical phase of our transformation,” said Carlos Zarlenga, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis North America. “This year marks the beginning of our electric vehicle offensive, and I have every confidence that Tim’s passion and collaborative spirit will lead the team to deliver the highest quality vehicles to our customers.”

Hiring someone with extensive experience in electric vehicles will help Stellantis as it electrifies its lineup. The brand plans to have 25 electric vehicles on the market in the United States by 2030.

The timing couldn’t be better for Rivian. The company only recently launched updated versions of the R1S and R1T, and continues to prepare for production of the smaller R2 and R3 models. In May, Rivian was awarded an $827 million incentive package from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity that will allow it to produce the R2 at its Normal plant, despite initially intending to build it at a plant in Georgia.
