The interior is available only in black, contrasted by silver stitching. The seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, ventilated and heated, and the dashboard and doors are also wrapped in leather.

Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder flat-four engine that produces 175 hp (130 kW / 177 PS) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a Lineartronic CVT.

The Subaru Legacy Outback Black Selection is available in Japan for ¥4,499,000 ($31,495), which is ¥99,000 ($693) more expensive than the Limited EX trim it’s based on. Subaru also offers a slightly pricier Legacy Outback Active x Black EX trim for ¥4,510,000 ($31,539) with similar features and the addition of waterproof seat upholstery.

Subaru first used the Outback name in 1994 for a crossover version of the Legacy Grand Wagon. In 1999, the Outback became a standalone model in Subaru’s U.S. lineup, a trend that continues today. The current generation was introduced in 2019 and was facelifted for the North American market in 2022, and it will continue to move forward despite the impending discontinuation of the Legacy sedan.
