Subaru previews purple BRZ and STI modified models in Tokyo

The BRZ STI Sport Purple Edition seems to be Japan’s take on the BRZ series. Purple

The Detroit Auto Show is shaping up to be a snoozefest, but thankfully the Tokyo Auto Salon also opens next month. Honda, Nissan, Suzuki and Mazda have already previewed their products, and now it’s Subaru’s turn.

The star of the year may be the new BRZ STI Sport Purple Edition. The company hasn’t revealed much about it, but the car is based on the BRZ STI Sport and comes in Galaxy Purple Pearl with contrasting black accents. Updates continue inside the cabin, with silver and gray trim for a “sophisticated” look.

The model will be produced in limited quantities and will likely echo the purple color of the 2025 BRZ series launched in October. It’s priced at $35,445 and comes in Galaxy Purple Pearl exterior with black badging and satin silver 18-inch wheels. The special edition also features Ultrasuede interior trim, a short-throw shifter and a flexible V-bar under the hood.

Subaru will display various other special editions equipped with STI performance parts. These include the WRX S4 STI Sport R-Black Limited and Levorg Layback Black Selection. Not surprisingly, both embraced the blackout trend.

The Crosstrek Hybrid will also receive an STI makeover. We don’t know much about it, but the standard model comes with a new 2.5-liter boxer engine, a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors. The engine produces 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS) and 154 lb-ft (209 Nm) of torque, while one of the electric motors produces 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS) and 154 lb-ft (209 Nm) of torque.

In addition to production models, a variety of race cars will be on display, including the 2025 BRZ GT300, WRX NBR Challenge 2025 and the high-performance x future concept car. STI performance parts and merchandise available for purchase will also be on display during the show.
