- A suspect fleeing from police may not know exactly who he is running from.
- It turns out that the state of Georgia has an elite high-speed task force, and they hunted down the Durango.
- Before police were able to stop him, the Durango driver crashed the SUV.
Trying to evade the police is never a good thing, but some people succeed. Most, though, struggle to get very far. In some cases, it’s because they picked the wrong car. In other cases, it’s because they can’t control the momentum they have. That appears to be the case with a chase that took place in Georgia on July 20.

Clayton County, just south of Atlanta, is home to the Black Hawk police unit, a unit that specializes in catching speeders. On July 20, the unit apparently spotted a suspect traveling at speeds approaching triple-digit speeds. One of the officers chased the vehicle, a Dodge Durango SRT, but the SUV didn’t stop.

At first, the driver appears to comply, moving to the far right lane and slowing down, but before coming to a complete stop, the driver hits the gas. As both the suspect and the police speed through traffic, the police begin a pursuit and almost immediately catch up. The video description below claims to be a police report and states that speeds of 140 mph (225 km/h) were reached.

The driver then attempted to turn onto I-285 from I-75, where the pursuit began. The switch required the driver to complete a cloverleaf turn, which, according to the report, made it difficult for the Durango to maintain traction. At the end of the curve, the suspect apparently stepped on the gas again and lost control, completely wrecked the SUV.
It hit a wall before bouncing back and hitting a second wall. Body camera video from the incident shows police arresting several suspects in the car. Of all the possible outcomes, this was probably one of the best. Not only did everyone escape unscathed, but the suspects essentially didn’t harm anyone or anything — except their own SUV.
