- The driver of a small SUV caused a three-vehicle crash in Connecticut.
- They managed to escape without any contact with other vehicles, which is known as a “near miss.”
- There are many lessons to be learned from this brief but brutal crash.
Long-haul truckers see all sorts of strange things while driving on the highway. A Connecticut driver recorded a bizarre crash that occurred on August 22. What initially seemed like an unexplainable mess was actually caused by a very bad driver and other side effects.

The vehicles were all traveling southbound on Interstate 91 in Windsor, and our dashcam owner was in the far right lane, lane 4. There was also an 18-wheeler in lane 3 approaching the traffic at a faster rate. At this point, traffic began to slow down, and the truck suddenly swerved to the left.

A red Subaru WRX overtook the second lane and was forced into the first lane, the HOV lane, but the truck driver still collided with the sedan. The Subaru spun and slid back onto the highway before hitting the Honda Odyssey in lane 4. The van then spun and slid back into the fast lane before hitting the truck that had initially turned.

A closer look revealed that a compact SUV in the third lane (which looked like a previous generation Toyota RAV4, although we can’t be sure) actually caused the entire accident by trying to take exit 35A. In order to do this, they were going much slower than the other vehicles. The swerving semi did this to avoid hitting the intersection. It’s also worth noting that the truck appeared to brake very late, so it’s possible that the driver was distracted.

Still, the entire series of crashes was caused by the actions of the SUV drivers. They waited too long to move into the fourth lane, they didn’t readjust and continue when they were too far past the exit to safely pass, and they didn’t speed around the Honda van when they were in the passing lane.
According to WRX drivers on Reddit postaleveryone walked away from the accident without serious injuries. At the same time, they claim, the SUV drove away without any responsibility. This is a small lesson for everyone to be careful about everything that happens on the highway. There are a lot of unskilled drivers out there.
