Maruti Brezza, No. 1 sub-4 meter SUV in October 2024, lost to Tata Punch and Nexon in November 2024
Sales in the sub-4 million category have far exceeded the 100,000-unit mark, showing healthy year-on-year growth. However, its quarter-on-quarter results were in the red as overall car sales fell over the past month. In November 2024, the sales volume of 12 SUVs priced under 40 lakh was 1,00,705 units, a growth of 15.52% from 87,174 units in November 2023. However, compared to 1,09,247 units in October 2024, this represents a month-on-month decrease of 7.82%. , only the Nexon/EV and Toyota Taisor improved in demand, while all other models suffered setbacks.
Sales volume of SUVs under 4 meters in November 2024
Tata Punch topped the list with sales of 15,435 units, a year-on-year increase of 7.31% from 14,383 units sold in November 2023. Punch holds 15.33% market share. However, month-on-month sales fell by 1.94% from 15,740 units in October 2024. In October 2024, the Punch range got a revamp, with trim levels axed in both petrol and CNG options.
The Nexon/EV also comes from the Tata stable. Sales in the past month were 15,329 units. A year-on-year increase of 2.77% and a month-on-month increase of 3.86%. The market share also increased from 13.51% to 15.22% month-on-month. Tata Motors will regain its No. 1 position in the sub-4 million SUV segment in November 2024.
Maruti Brezza was the number one selling sub-4m SUV in October 2024, but fell to the third position last month. Sales volume was 14,918 units, a year-on-year increase of 11.39%. However, month-on-month sales fell by 9.94% from 16,565 units in October 2024.
Maruti recorded high demand for Fronx in November 2024. Sales increased by 50.83% to 14,882 units from 9,867 units sold in November 2023. However, month-on-month sales fell by 9.36% from the 16,419 units sold in October 2024. In October 2024, Fronx also reached the 200,000 sales milestone, becoming the fastest passenger to reach this goal since its launch in April 2023, taking just 17.3 months.
Modern venue declines year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter
Hyundai Venue sales fell to 9,754 units last month. This is related to a year-on-year decrease of 12.75% and a month-on-month decrease of 10.52%. 11,180 units and 10,901 units were sold in November 2023 and October 2024 respectively. The venue currently holds 9.69% of the market share. Kia Sonet sales grew. Sales increased to 9,255 units last month, a year-on-year increase of 43.87% from 6,433 units sold in November 2023. However, month-on-month sales dropped 4.58% from 9,699 units sold in October 2024.
Also on the list was Mahindra XUV3X), with sales of 7,656 units, a year-on-year increase of 63.83%. Hyundai Exter sold 5,747 units in the past month, but it declined both year-on-year and month-on-month. Toyota Taisor sold 3,620 units last month, a month-on-month increase of 17.08%. Nissan Magnite (2,342 units), Maruti Jimny (988 units) and Renault Kiger (779 units) all experienced month-on-month declines.
