SUV sales below 4 million in October 2024 – Brezza, Fronx, Punch, Nexon,

The sub-4 meter SUV segment, led by Maruti Brezza and Fronx, performed strongly in October 2024, posting double-digit growth both year-on-year and month-on-month

In the highly competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment, Maruti Brezza and Fronx are the top two with strong sales growth. In October 2024, demand improved across the segment both year-on-year and month-on-month. While demand for some models fell year-on-year, only the Kia Sonet’s month-on-month performance declined. Let’s take a look at the sales of these SUVs under 4 million in October 2024, including 12 models. Two new models will appear soon: Skoda Kylaq and Volkswagen Tera.

SUV sales under 4 million in October 2024 – Brezza ranks first

In October 2024, the sales of SUVs, which were below 4 million units, increased to 1,09,247 units. This is an increase of 13.82% from the 95,984 units sold in October 2023, a sales increase of 13,263 units. Month-on-month sales also increased by 12.91% from 96,754 units in September 2024. Maruti Suzuki Brezza topped the sales list with 16,565 units sold in the past month, accounting for 15.16% of the market share. Compared with the 16,050 units sold in October 2023, the year-on-year increase was 3.21%, and the month-on-month sales volume increased by 8.11% compared with the 15,322 units sold in September 2024.

Also from Maruti is the Fronx, which sold 16,419 units last month. This is a year-on-year increase of 44.57% compared to 11,357 units sold in October 2023. The month-on-month sales volume increased by 19.12% compared with 13,784 units sold in September 2024. The Tata Punch and its electric counterparts have slipped to the third spot in the list. In October 2024, sales increased by 2.76% year-on-year and 14.80% month-on-month to 15,740 vehicles, accounting for 14.41% of the market share.

Nexon/EV sales decline in October 2024. Sales fell 12.60% year-on-year to 14,759 units, down from 16,887 units in the same month last year. Compared to the 11,470 units sold in September 2024, the month-on-month improvement was indeed significant at 28.67%. Sales of the Hyundai Venue also dropped year-on-year to 10,901 units, down 5.87% from the 11,581 units sold in October 2023. But month-on-month sales increased by 6.26 units, with September sales exceeding 10,259 units in 2024. Venue is the last sub-4 million SUV to sell more than 10,000 units.

SUVs with sales below 4 million units

Kia Sonet sales increased from 6,493 units in October 2023 to 9,699 units in October 2024, a year-on-year growth of 49.38%. Sonet currently holds a market share of 8.88%, but sales fell by 6.15% month-on-month in October 2024. This compares to 10,335 units sold in September 2024. Mahindra XUV3XO is in strong demand, with sales increasing by 96.55% year-on-year and 6.24% month-on-month to 9,562 units. 4,865 units and 9,000 units were sold in October 2023 and September 2024 respectively. XUV3XO recently received a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

Hyundai Exter sales fell 11.98 units year-on-year to 7,127 units, compared with 8,097 units sold in October 2023. The month-on-month sales volume increased by 3.17% compared with 6,908 units sold in September 2024. Nissan Magnite sales in the past month were 3,119 units and 2,573 units sold in October, a year-on-year increase of 21.22% in 2023. The facelifted Nissan Magnite, launched in September 2024, has experienced a month-on-month sales increase of 48.52%. Among the facelift models, the Nissan Magnite has been praised for its new exterior and interior improvements.

Toyota Taisor sold 3,092 units last month. Compared with 2,278 units sold in September 2024, the month-on-month increase was 35.73%. Taisor currently holds 2.35% share in this sub-4 million SUV segment. At the bottom of the list is the Maruti Jimny, whose sales fell 34.61% year-on-year to 1,211 units. However, its sequential performance was shocking. 599 units were sold in September 2024, a month-on-month increase of 102.17%. The Nissan Kiger also showed a year-on-year and month-on-month increase of 1,053 units last month, with 912 units and 988 units sold in October 2023, a year-on-year increase of 15.46% and a month-on-month increase of 56.58%. September 2024 respectively.
