Suzuki Hustler secretly tested in India for the first time;

The Suzuki Hustler is a compact SUV that belongs to the Japanese light vehicle segment, which is known for its small cars. Although not many people in India are familiar with the Suzuki Hustler, the automaker has started testing the model in India. Spy photos of the compact SUV being tested near New Delhi surfaced on social media, sparking rumours that Maruti Suzuki will sell the model here. Although the Jimny, Brezza and Fronx are already sold here, the automaker feels there is room for more. It has a unique design, reminiscent of the Jimny and WagonR. Several design elements can be seen in the spy photos as the test mule is uncamouflaged. The Hustler branding and Suzuki logo have been removed from the test mule, though.

Suzuki Hustler: Design, dimensions, powertrain, and more

The Suzuki Hustler is a traditional Japanese light car that debuted in the home market in 2014. It is comparable in size to the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the MG Comet EV. In terms of dimensions, the car has a wheelbase of 2,400 mm and a length of 3,300 mm. It is currently available in international markets. It is likely to have the same dimensions as the global-spec model. However, if the manufacturer is to launch this in our market, it will need to be larger than the existing version.

Suzuki’s Indian arm Maruti Suzuki may launch a slightly longer and more practical version of the Japanese Hustler to appeal to a wider range of buyers in India, just like the original three-door Jimny. The increased length means a bigger boot and more interior space, especially for rear seat passengers.

Design-wise, the Hustler features a flat roofline, tall pillars and a boxy look. The 15-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels accentuate the square wheel arches and come with heavy cladding for an attractive look. At the rear, a huge glass window is housed in the flat tail panel. Round headlamps and a sleek radiator grille with chrome trim are the standout features at the front, however, they are hidden in the recent spy shots.

Other eye-catching features of the Hustler include roof rails, pull-type door handles and large front and rear bumpers that lend a muscular look to this micro-UV. Being a Kei car, the Hustler is powered by a 660cc petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 48bhp when running on a naturally aspirated (NA) unit and 64bhp when running on a turbocharged unit. A CVT automatic gearbox is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.
